Aligning the ceiling: basic ways

Self-leveling the ceiling with your own hands is a responsible, complicated and time-consuming process, because the appearance of the room as a whole will depend on the quality of the work done, so it is extremely important to choose the best way to level the ceilings, adhere to technology and use high-quality materials and tools.

Ways to align the ceiling

The technology of leveling the ceiling is to determine the height difference and its elimination. To do this, the previous finish is removed, the suspended or plasterboard ceiling is dismantled. And only after that with the help of the construction level its height differences are changed.

The leveling of the ceiling with plasterboard and the use of stretch or suspended ceiling systems are also actively used. These methods can be attributed to the dry surface leveling methods.

If the differential does not exceed 2 cm, then you can apply the alignment of the ceiling with putty without using plaster. In this case, there are two types of putty - starting and finishing. When the difference is from 2 to 5 cm, it is recommended to putty putty on the reinforced mesh, which should be fixed on the ceiling.

Before applying any leveling mortar, the ceiling should be thoroughly cleaned and coated with a primer. Surface finishing can be carried out only when the primer is completely dry.

Leveling plasterboard

Alignment of the ceiling with plasterboard is to install the sheets on a special design, creating a smooth and even surface. The advantages of this method include the ability to perform the work independently without the use of complex tools and expensive materials.

When choosing a dry leveling method it is best to give preference to drywall. The technology is very simple and can be done even by a person without experience in construction:

  1. The first stage is the marking of the points along which the installation of the suspensions holding the structure will be carried out, therefore, this stage should be approached with great responsibility.
  2. If you place them unevenly, then the structure will be tilted or broken.
  3. Wiring and other communications are being installed, which will be hidden by the plasterboard construction.
  4. The frame is made. For this, a metal profile is used.
  5. Prepare drywall sheets and give them the necessary shape and size.
  6. Fastening sheets to the frame.
  7. The seams are sealed with a putty, and when it dries, a layer of plaster is applied over it.

With the help of gypsum cardboard it is possible to level the ceiling in the whole apartment. For the design of the bathroom and kitchen it is recommended to use sheets with a good indicator of resistance to the negative effects of moisture.

The most popular method is leveling the ceiling with plaster. This is most often used gypsum plaster, which provides a perfectly flat surface.

The most difficult and crucial method is a complete alignment with putty. It can be used after plastering or with small drops - independently. It is recommended to apply the solution in two layers, because the final putty gives more shrinkage.

There are several basic ways to level the ceiling in a residential area. The choice of one or another method depends on the level of drops, the purpose of the room, the method of finishing the surface, as well as personal preferences. Also, the dimensions of the room influence the choice of alignment method. At low ceilings, the use of drywall constructions is not recommended. However, the choice of alignment method is not as important as careful work, taking into account all the technological features of the material. In this case, the ceiling will turn out smooth and beautiful, and will last for a long time without loss of external and operational qualities.
