Concrete ceiling - a great option for the harsh and brutal style loft (26 photos)

Concrete ceiling in the interior of the room is a modern trend of design art. Previously, concrete was used only as a rough finish, which needs plastering and painting, but now the situation has changed completely and this building material is used for finishing the walls and ceilings in the bathroom, bathroom, guest room. The fact is that the use of concrete in the interior as a finishing material helps to highlight bright colors and textures. Its advantage is an excellent combination with metal and wooden products. A few years ago, few could have imagined that the apartment could just leave the concrete pavement without any finishing. This could be imagined only in the garage or in the workshops, but gradually the popularity of concrete as a finishing material increased due to the great demand for loft style, minimalism, industrial.

What is the popularity of concrete?

This brutal material in the hands of the designer can turn into an attractive and aesthetic. It will not yield to ceramics or stone.

The main advantages of concrete include:

  • availability;
  • not very high cost;
  • fire safety;
  • resistance to moisture, mold, fungi.

Concrete coating gives conciseness and severity of the room, on its background bright spots look great in the form of pictures or photos, but you should not use concrete for finishing children's rooms, it puts too much pressure on the child's psyche with its grayness and rudeness.

The technology of casting the ceiling with concrete is not as complicated as it may seem at first glance, and the practicality of such a ceiling leaves no doubt, because the concrete flooring makes the room stronger and more durable. Among the minuses can be noted a considerable weight of concrete and the duration of the work.

Before work, it is necessary to carry out cleaning, priming, sealing of cracks in the ceiling and carefully calculate the thickness of the concrete, taking into account the load that the surface must withstand. If the overlap has a thickness of less than 15 cm, then it is reinforced with metal reinforcement. The reinforcing material is laid crosswise and its joints are welded. For formwork used waterproof plywood and board-support. Filling is quite simple, especially if it is carried out by two people. The work is performed from the corners, in the course they are leveled and air bubbles are removed from the mass. For 2 months, the ceiling leaf is left to dry with the formwork. If you remove the formwork earlier, cracks will appear on the ceiling and the integrity of the surface will be broken.

Frameless insulation

With the help of frameless construction, heat insulation is provided, while the ceiling practically does not lose height. In this scheme, rigid heat-insulating materials are used, which are firmly mounted on the ceiling, and then finishing is performed. With the help of frame construction, the complex protection of the concrete ceiling is ensured due to the presence of layers of heat, sound, hydro, vapor insulation, but the frame insulation method reduces the height of the ceilings by at least 7 cm.

You can choose foam or its varieties (polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane foam, polystyrene foam). You should choose a material with low thermal conductivity. When choosing a foam you need to remember that it does not absorb noise.

When the work on alignment of the joints is completed, the ceiling is allowed to dry (24 hours). After drying, a glass fiber reinforcing mesh is placed on top of the foam plastic on a thin adhesive layer of PVA with an allowance of 5 cm stripes on each other and on the walls. Do not allow any sagging and bubbles. After aligning and fixing the reinforcing mesh, proceed to the main fastening of the insulation to the ceiling with the help of funnel snipe. The result is a smooth surface, which is then leveled with plaster or cement mixture, and painted.

Instead of solid insulation, stone wool is also used, but the process of insulation becomes more difficult to perform, since the fibrous insulation is difficult to fix.

Frame insulation mineral wool

This method of insulation of a concrete ceiling is more expensive and more difficult to perform, but it is still the most common one.

The ceiling must be cleaned of all detachments, worn parts, then primed with a latex solution. When the primer is dry, seal and putty cracks, and level the rest of the surface with a cement-based mixture.

After curing, the ceiling is waterproofed with a penetrating waterproofing agent. For vapor barrier on the frame mount a dense polyethylene. The frame is made of drywall or antiseptic-treated wooden bars, which are fastened with self-tapping screws. Sheets of insulation are located between the frame and the concrete base. After filling the entire surface of the ceiling with insulation, another layer of film is placed under the frame. Then, drywall, siding or decorative tiles (depending on the material chosen) are attached to the frame of the warmed ceiling, and a finishing is carried out if necessary.

If the loft style is made, then there is no need to hide communications. Heating radiators, pipes, ventilation, electrical wiring will only complement and emphasize the style of the room.

Than to cover a concrete ceiling, everyone solves itself to the taste. There are several options for finishing the concrete ceiling.

This is a simple and low-budget way. It will require lime or chalk, which is diluted with water. For a complete painting of the entire area of the ceiling will need to process it two or three times. In this case, you get a perfectly smooth white surface. If you want the ceiling to look different, you need to add a colored pigment of suitable color to the lime. Cover the ceiling with whitewash better with a spray gun. The disadvantage of whitewashing is its fragility and reaction to high humidity. It is necessary to renew the painted ceiling often.

Better finish option concrete ceiling. For coloring use acrylic or water-based paint. It is applied with a brush, roller, spray, but before painting the concrete ceiling using a water emulsion, it should be carefully prepared and level the surface, treat the concrete base with a primer.

Loft style

In this case, finishing the concrete ceiling, decorating, leveling, preparation for painting, plaster, primer is not required. Small flows of concrete will produce the desired effect. For brutality, you can use metal or wooden structures. It remains only to properly illuminate the room.

For such a loft style, not all types of lamps are suitable, so it is important to know how to hang the chandelier on a concrete ceiling so that the room does not appear gray, uncomfortable and low, because the concrete ceiling coating reduces the height of the room visually.

You should know that the ceiling of the concrete in the loft style should be illuminated in such a way that it does not seem gloomy and uncomfortable. For this style, lamps of the following type hanging from above are best suited:

  • Lamp Ilyich. Apply conventional incandescent lamps without lampshades, located above the working areas. You can make suspensions for lamps of different lengths and the light bulbs themselves can be of different power, size.
  • Halogen lamps. They have different directions and will be able to emphasize the desired surface area.
  • Chandelier in the form of a fan. Such chandeliers adorn and well illuminate the ceiling of concrete.
  • High tech. Unusual and bright high-tech chandeliers are perfect for a loft, and the grayish shade of concrete will emphasize their originality.
  • Retro. You can choose retro lamps that emphasize the austerity of the room.

If you know how to hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling and do it correctly, then the concrete surface will play with different colors and reveal incredible facets of shades of gray. You can experiment with lamps and show your creativity in the loft style.
